UPSC CMS Recruitment 2026 for 1358 Medical Officer Posts

Union Public Service Commission has released the official notification for the Combined Medical Services Examination 2026. The notification was issued on 11 March 2026 under Examination Notice No. 9/2026-CMS.

Through this recruitment, UPSC will fill 1358 vacancies for different Medical Officer posts including Medical Officers Grade in Central Health Service, Assistant Divisional Medical Officer in Railways, and General Duty Medical Officer posts. Candidates who have passed the written and practical parts of the final MBBS examination are eligible to apply. Eligibility Criteria of UPSC CMS Vacancies


Educational Qualification

  • Candidate must have passed the written and practical parts of the final MBBS examination from a recognized university.
  • Candidates who are appearing in the final MBBS examination may also apply, but must produce proof of passing within the prescribed period after the written examination result.
  • Candidates must complete the compulsory rotating internship before final appointment.

Age Limit

  • Maximum Age: 32 years as on 01 August 2026.
  • For Medical Officers Grade in Central Health Service, the maximum age limit is 35 years.
  • Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per government rules.

Other Requirements

  • Candidate must meet the physical and medical standards prescribed for the Combined Medical Services Examination.
  • Eligibility regarding nationality must follow the rules mentioned in the official notification.

Salary


Selected candidates will receive salary in Pay Matrix Level 10 ranging from 56100 to 177500 along with Non Practising Allowance and other admissible benefits as per government rules.

Selection Process


The selection process will consist of two stages.

  1. Written Examination of 500 marks.
  2. Personality Test or Interview of 100 marks.

The written examination will have two objective type papers covering medical subjects.
