TOEFL iBT now accepted under Canada’s SDS scheme

On Monday, Educational Testing Service (ETS) announced that the TOEFL iBT exam has been approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for use in Canada’s Student Direct Stream (SDS) program.

SDS is a program that facilitates the expedited processing of study permit applications for international students applying to Canadian educational institutions.

With the acceptance of TOEFL iBT, the application process for students taking the exam will be accelerated, as most SDS applications are processed within 20 calendar days.

Starting from August 10, 2023, students can submit their TOEFL iBT scores as part of their SDS application.

Rohit Sharma, Senior Vice President of Global Higher Education and Workskills at ETS, expressed excitement about the expanded opportunities for students to study in Canada, stating that the addition of TOEFL iBT will benefit both students and institutions by providing a wider pool of applicants who can demonstrate their English-language proficiency through the premier test.

Previously, only the English-language testing option was authorized for the SDS program. For more information, interested individuals can visit www.etsindia.org/country-toefl/canada/.
