For school admission, parents to submit an affidavit “Ward is not an Drug-Addict”

The authorities in the Kupwara district have requested parents of students seeking admission to government schools to provide an affidavit confirming that their children are not involved in any drug-related activities.

Abdul Hamid Fani, Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Kupwara, stated that if any students are found to be engaged in drug-related activities, their admission will be revoked by the appropriate authorities.

“As the admission process for students in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades has commenced, the Heads of HS and HSS institutions are instructed to obtain an affidavit from parents stating that their child is not involved in any drug-related activities,” stated the CEO in a circular.

The circular further emphasized that “if a student is discovered engaging in any form of such activities, their admission will be cancelled from the very beginning.”

In a separate development in Anantnag district in southern Kashmir, the School Education Department decided to assign certain students a role in curbing drug-related issues in and around educational institutions.

During a meeting at the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), the district’s deputy commissioner directed the development of a comprehensive task list for each school.

The CEO of Anantnag consequently urged all schools to comply with the department’s instructions.

“All schools must organize special sessions and motivational lectures during morning assemblies once or twice a month to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and substance abuse,” stated the CEO.
