The National Testing Agency’s (NTA) decision to designate exam centers for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-2023 outside of Jammu and Kashmir has left hundreds of students in despair.
Many of these students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and are unable to afford the travel expenses associated with the assigned exam centers.
The NTA’s choice to establish exam centers outside the state has caused significant disruption and added stress for these ambitious students, who were already facing the challenges of preparing for a highly competitive entrance test.
Expressing their disappointment, the students mentioned that they had requested exam centers within Kashmir but were shocked to learn that they were allotted centers outside Jammu and Kashmir.
In protest, the students and their concerned parents gathered at the Srinagar Press Enclave, demanding an immediate resolution to the issue and the relocation of their exam centers to Kashmir.
The protesting parents highlighted that the decision to move the exam centers outside the state not only imposes a financial burden on families struggling to make ends meet but also subjects their children to unnecessary hardship and exhaustion.
They emphasized that these dedicated students have been diligently preparing for the CUET and deserve fair treatment in the examination process.
The parents appealed to the authorities, specifically the NTA, to reconsider and rectify the allocation of exam centers, enabling the students to take the CUET within Kashmir.
An official from the Higher Education Department (HED) stated that the matter will be discussed with the NTA to understand the basis on which exam centers were allocated outside Kashmir for Valley students.
This year, all J&K universities decided to conduct admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate courses through a written test conducted by the NTA. The CUET-2023 is being conducted by the NTA for admission to undergraduate programs in Central Universities, participating universities, institutions, and autonomous colleges.
